When it comes to Koh Samui’s traditions and heritage, visitors cant look past the island’s famous temples. These beautiful Buddhist temples not only showcase excellent architecture, but also represent the Buddhist culture.

Koh Samui’s Buddhas Footprint is a housed in famous wat located high on a hill. It is very popular as it honours an imprint of Buddha’s foot.

In total, the temple features four footprints, each superimposed on the other and artistically engraved. The engraved footprints represent the liberation path as mentioned in the life of Buddha. Buddha’s footprint is housed in a modest shrine within a beautiful temple, located 150 steps up a steep hill. From this wat, you will be able to enjoy a bird’s eye view of the hills, foliage and beautiful coastline.

As the location of Buddha’s Footprint is not signposted, tourists may find it difficult to locate. If you are planning to visit, follow the road towards the Hua Thanon Village from Lamai and the temple is found near the Samui Butterfly Garden. When you go past the garden on the 4170 road, you will reach your destination. Please note that photography is not allowed inside the temple.

Today, the wat is considered a popular tourist attraction in Koh Samui and tourists come to this wat to explore its century-old architectural monuments.

Visitors are requested to wear respectable clothing while visiting this religious site and the temple’s abbot asks visitors to maintain silence within the premises. Eating and drinking is also not permitted.
